Dear Reader,
The most important news this month is that I have discounted the Caelestis Series boxed set from $8.99 to 99 cents through June 16 because I got a BookBub featured deal that will go out on June 12. My hope is that this will attract a lot of new readers to the series, readers who will then have no choice but to run out and buy the newest book, Tides of Acerba, to find out what happened next.
This is also a perfect time for those of you who are primarily fans of my historical mystery series and have so far resisted the temptation to try my science fiction stories to change your mind. At 99 cents, what do you have to lose?
And to encourage this decision, I thought it might be useful to quote a few Amazon reviews.
For example, one Amazon review of the boxed set (which has a 4.5 star rating) said: “I have enjoyed many of the historical mysteries written by Ms. Locke- very well-written, with engaging characters. But her foray into science fiction is even better…”
And another reviewer of the first book in the series, Between Mountain and Sea, (which has 1,266 ratings, with a 4.4 average) wrote “I think I liked it even better than the Victorian series, if that is possible. I had a hard time putting it down, and I'm looking forward to reading the rest of the series.”
And here is another reviewer who said that after reading the first book in the series, they “… purchased and read books two and three. Although each book is a stand alone, I wanted to find out what happened to the heroine. I just devoured all three books. The author reminds me of Anne McCaffrey not only because the plot involves telepathy, including telepathy with humans as well as telepathy with animals, but because the plot moves right along. Louisa Locke has become my favorite scifi writer.”
And finally, I just got this lovely long review of Tides of Acerba. I think if you go and read the review, you might be convinced you need to immediately buy the boxed set (at only 99 cents!) as well as buy Tides of Acerba (and did I mention it is available as an ebook on Kindle, Kobo, Nook, AppleBooks, GooglePlay, and assorted other retailers?)
In case you didn’t guess, I am really, really proud of this series.
Gut enough shameless promotion!
Meanwhile, Dandy and the Dognappers, the Victorian San Francisco short story that I have been publishing scene-by-scene over on my daily newsletter An Author’s Daily Diversions is rapidly coming to completion. I just put up scene 7, and I expect to have completed the story (prior to polishing and publishing it as an ebook) within the next two weeks. This link will get you to the page where the rest of the scenes have been published.

Historical Mystery for the Month
A Quite Deadly Affair: A Mr. Quayle Mystery
A Christmas party turns deadly when a scandalous affair, suspicion of treason, and a woman scorned lead to murder in this 1920s-style whodunit.
London 1928. For Sir Edmund Ferrier, the past year has been one of hard-won triumphs. Recently appointed a cabinet minister, Sir Edmund confidently expects to be elected prime minister one day. But when his ex-lover, Mrs. Pulver, is found dead in his study, Sir Edmund soon finds his career and his life in danger—not least from his spiteful and enigmatic wife.
Sir Edmund’s secretary, Mr. Quayle, knows there’s more to Mrs. Pulver’s murder than meets the eye. Vital documents have gone missing from the ministry, and Mr. Quayle believes that Sir Edmund and Mrs. Pulver were involved. Unfortunately, the ministry has a different suspect in mind—Mr. Quayle.
Desperate to prove his innocence, Mr. Quayle sets out to catch the killer and find the missing documents. But he soon discovers that treason isn’t the only skeleton hiding in Sir Edmund’s cupboard in this classic Agatha-Christie-style whodunit.
This 1920s novella is the prequel to the Mr. Quayle Mystery series and your complimentary copy is available to download on Book Funnel.
